Tallinna Kaubamaja department store has a dignified history and is one of the first major shopping centers in the capital. Tallinna Kaubamaja uses a large number of digital screens to showcase advertisements and promotions, creating a memorable and engaging shopping experience.
Recently, the video wall above the escalator connecting the Women's World and the Beauty World departments was replaced with a large Samsung LED screen.
Liina Männama, Director of Administration and Development at Kaubamaja explains why Kaubamaja chose a screen made of LED panels instead of a conventional video wall:
"The large video wall made of LCD screens in Kaubamaja was first installed in 2017 and has served us very well so far. We started thinking about the replacement at the end of 2022, when we could see that the individual wall panels were lapsing in performance. Unfortunately, the panels that came on the market in the intervening years were no longer of the exact same dimensions and could not have been used to replace individual pieces in the old video wall. We were debating between LED panels and a new video wall with an already proven solution.
In recent years, LED panels have found a lot of use indoors and have also made a significant leap forward in terms of quality. On a large scale, the prices for the screen we wanted were relatively similar for both screen types, with the LED panel solution being slightly more expensive. With a view to the next 5 years, we decided to opt for a 2.5 mm pix pitch LED panel solution. The main motivation was good quality, easier replacement of panels (replacement panels from the same batch are available), lower energy consumption, uniform screen without gaps.
We dare to believe that the display market will undergo many changes in the coming years and the use of LED panels is rather on the rise. The future of traditional video walls cannot be known in advance, but it can already be seen today that easily replaceable replacements with exactly the same size and parameters cannot be guaranteed for 5 years."
